Ai Hooi’s philosophy for choral music and teaching stems from her view that a fulfilling musical journey is one that is filled with sincerity, love and excellence. She uses the creation of music as a platform to share and infuse her values and beliefs in her singers, and inspires them to use the beauty of music to craft experiences that touch the hearts of the audience.
Born in Penang, Malaysia, Ai Hooi graduated from the Royal College of Music, London with Majors in Piano and Voice. After moving to Singapore, she took on the role as educator and conductor to local school choirs and has since contributed greatly to developing the local choral scene through the nurturing of younger choral conductors and choristers. Her Singapore school choirs have clinched many top awards in both local and international competitions over the past 20 years.
Apart from adjudicating and conducting workshops worldwide, Ai Hooi established ONE Chamber Choir, a young adult choir in 2009.

Since its establishment, ONE has presented unique experiences to its audiences through challenging conventional choral performances and exploring new dimensions to choral delivery under the artistic leadership and vision of Ai Hooi. Recently, the choir achieved the 2nd Prize of the Mixed Choirs category at the 15th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf 2017, as well as the Special Prize of the Carl-Orff-Stiftung Diessan am Ammersee for the best interpretation of a choral worked premiered at the competition for “The Emigrant” by Wolfram Buchenberg. Ai Hooi also co-founded Sourcewerkz PL to further her calling to teach, touch and transform the larger choral community and its audience. To date, Sourcewerkz has organised the Winter Choral Festival in Hong Kong since 2010 and Festival Coros de Verão in Lisbon since 2012, as well as various workshops with international choral clinicians. In 2014, she conceptualised and directed the 1st Singapore International Choral Festival and since then, SICF has played host to over 7000 choristers and is now in her fifth iteration.
Mr Yong Chee Foon is an accomplished conductor in Singapore. A pianist by training, his passion for choral music developed when he first joined the Victoria Junior College Choir and then, the Victoria Chorale.
He first graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy. After several years in the financial sector, he moved on to pursue his passion - Choral art - and obtained an ATCL in Voice from Trinity College, London. In 2016, he graduated with a Masters in Music (Choral Conducting) from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Who We Are
Driven by a common passion in music and a heart for the community around us, SourceWerkz was set up under the direction of Ms Lim Ai Hooi together with choral director Mr Yong Chee Foon and two other choral enthusiasts, Mr Ong Wei Meng and Mr Seah Quee Ming in 2011 with the aim of providing quality music and choral education.
In association with Rave Group PL, we launched our first event, the Winter Choral Festival in Hong Kong Disneyland that features a festival helmed by an international panel of judges. The festival, currently in its sixth iteration, gave our participants a unique, multi-faceted experience of a lifetime via choral workshops with our judges and the Disney Performing Arts programme.
Since 2012, we collaborated with Dr. Paulo Lourenço to organise the annual Festival Coros de Verão with the support of EGEAC – a Lisbon municipality enterprise whose vision is to enhance and stimulate the arts and culture of the city of Lisbon. Moving forward, the 1st Tenerife Autumn Choral Festival – Vibrato, will be held from November 5 – 8, 2020 in Tenerife, Canary Islands of Spain.
Through the years, we have also worked with a plethora of world-renowned choral clinicians, conducting multiple workshops and masterclasses for local choirs in Singapore. These include, Eugene Rogers, USA, Māris Sirmais, Latvia, Pedro Teixeira, Portugal, André van der Merwe, South Africa, Michael Barrett, South Africa and María Guinand, Venezuela.
Always looking for opportunities to spread the message of love, peace and unity through choral music, we have conceptualised and are the organisers of the Singapore International Choral Festival. With over 200 choirs and over 10,000 participants since our first edition, the festival has grown from strength to strength. In a cross regional collaboration with the Bali International Choir Festival and the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, we conceptualised the Asia Choral Grand Prix (ACGP) Circuit where the Grand Prix Winners of the three festivals will compete biennially for the Asia Choral Grand Prix Champion Prize. The first ACGP was held on 21 July 2019 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila, with the next leg in 2021 in Bali, Indonesia.
